The Story of Christmas by Patricia A. Pingry
The Story of Christmas is just that. It's a family around the Christmas tree sharing the story of Christmas. The mom and dad tell their children about the importance of Christmas and explaining why gifts are given. The share about the trip that Mary and Joseph took that there was no room available for them to stay in so they stayed in the stable instead and this was where Jesus was born.
The story continues on to tell of the shepherds' visit by the angels and their visit to see Jesus to worship him and of the Wise Men visiting with their gifts. Mom and dad go on to share that we give gifts at Christmas to show our love for each other and celebrate Jesus' birthday.
One of the reasons that I really like Patricia Pingry's books is they are illustrated with characters with different ethnicities and skin tones. Her books make it easier for all children to see themselves in a story.
This is a board book that is great for young children but not so simple that elementary school kids can't appreciate it.
