I'm working on some hats that are to be donated to the Messino Cancer Center in Asheville, NC through the Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival in North Carolina in a couple of weeks and I was looking for patterns that would work up easily. There are quite a few out there and I was inspired to make my own design after working some other hats.
I used Lion Brand Comfy Cotton in Chai Latte to make this hat. You can use and thicker 3 weight or a 4 weight yarn. Cotton is nice because it's not itchy or hot and it's soft and not overly stretchy. This makes a nice average adult-sized hat.
Terms used:
- ch - chain
- hdc - half double crochet
- sc - single crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- st - stitch
Information: Instructions are in US terms. Ch 1 at the beginning of the round doesn't count as a stitch. I like to place a stitch marker in the first stitch so I know where to slip stitch at the end of the round. Work your first stitch into the same stitch that you slip stitched to at the end of the round. I know most people don't need to see that instruction, but it took me a few years to figure that out.
