The Prayer of Protection Devotional Book Review

The Prayer of Protection Devotional, subtitled Daily Strategies for Living Fearlessly in Dangerous Times, is the latest in Pastor Joseph Prince’s long list of inspiring books published by FaithWords.  It’s a detailed and thoroughly cross-referenced devotional completely based on Psalm 91.

Each day is a quick read through of a portion of Psalm 91, taken in order by verse. Pastor Prince then gives a detailed commentary on each verse and ties it into a situation, emotion or circumstance that has ties in both the old and new testaments and why the believer has so much reason for confidence in the power of God.

And what a superb job Prince does of showing the reader what power they have and why! Here is a small excerpt from just the first verse of the first of the first devotion:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ~ Psalm 91:1

In tying in the Old Testament meaning with new testament Christianity, Pastor Prince comments: “The Hebrew word for “dwell” is yashab, which means to sit down, to remain, or to settle. Notice that the very first thing that God wants you to do to enjoy His protection is to rest.” The tie into the New Testament comes with his comments relating to Ephesians 2:6 which has us seated with Christ at God’s right hand. Pastor Prince says, “the word seated is beautiful–it means you are no longer standing and working”.

Each daily devotional includes a key verse from Psalm 91 and other Scripture verses, a devotional excerpt from Pastor Prince’s book, “The Prayer of Protection”, a daily prayer, and a daily thought. The last two are directly related to the devotional subject and both inspiring and powerful.

Beyond this, this devotional is broken into 12 sections, with seven to nine devotions related to the power of God, His promises, the power of the Holy Spirit, and other topics that are designed to draw us closer to His power and empower us to live according to the Word He planted in us through His Son Jesus Christ.

I highly recommend The Prayer of Protection Devotional to those who are pursuing a close, powerful, personal walk with the Lord in all its best dimensions.  If you’re interested in digging deeper, you can also find The Prayer of Protection book and The Prayer of Protection Study Guide: Living Fearlessly in Dangerous Times.  They’re great enhancements to your study.
